I know, I am behind. These next few are from my San Diego mini-sessions last Oct.
Wait, did you say LAST Oct? Yep, I did...right after I got home from shooting these bad boys I found out I was pregnant and the sickness came..and pretty much didn't leave until I delivered.
These are one of my very bestest friends children. I love her, I love them. Here are a few of my favs.

Baby Time...

I am super excited to have my last little baby in 2 weeks and 4 days. :) Yes, I am counting down.
Obviously I have been terrible at blogging but this baby has made me pretty dang sick for the WHOLE 9 months. I will resume shooting after baby is born and I spend some time with my family.
I will be doing some small sessions in Utah end of July. I can only take 2 more, so if you are interested let me know.
August is booked for Portland, and the first part of Sept. If you need senior pics or holiday/family pictures please contact me soon!
This year is going to be about my little ones! ;)

Man, I always have the most adorable families...beautiful parents, beautiful kids, and a few Matilda Jane dresses, and we are in business.
This is another California mini-session...most of my clients do Christmas cards along with their session and I have to say it was one of my favorites!
Thanks Nay family...anytime you want to come out and play golf in Oregon, I have a good connection! :) (and us girls will shop, I also have a few connections there!)

This is one of my favorite families. Seriously their kids are just beautiful,(not that the parents are real shabby either).
So not only do I love shooting them, and hanging out to see how big the kids are, but they just happened to be my very first customer when I started.
I told Missi (the momma)that I needed a beautiful family to practice on and she graciously said yes. It just happened that she was pregnant too...so we got to do maternity, newborn, and family Christmas cards all in about 3 months.
I will never forget that she took a chance on me when I started and she has since referred many a customer this way. Thank you Waldrons...one day if you ever want to sell a child I am first in line. ;)

I know, many of you have seen this lovely family on FB, but I am going to put a serious effort into blogging the next 12 families from Oct thru the present.
I wish I could say that at 24 weeks pregnant I feel better..but sadly that is not the case. I am still super nauseous which is soooo fun! I am very excited for our little girl to arrive this summer. Until then, I will make a valiant charge to blog more. (you've heard this right?) I promise.
This is the start of my mini-session in the San Diego area. I love the light down there, it's been interesting learning the difference between San Diego, Salt Lake, and Portland, but it keeps me on my toes.

Emily King....Papers Edge

So last year I had the chance to take some pictures for my friend Emily and her AMAZING company Papers Edge. Not only does she have an the coolest art, she has an great, clean style that I love. And you will too.

Bates Senior Pictures {Portland, Oregon Senior Photographer}

There is something really great about talking senior pictures. It takes me back to the good old days of when I used to put a small beauty mark above my mouth to make me look more like Cindy Crawford. (don't be jealous you didn't think of it first) Which as a strawberry blonde is sorta hard to pull off.
But high school was a great time for me...I loved it. First loves, first time I got my license suspended (long story, but I am the BEST driver now trust me), I even went to college to be a music teacher..that is until I actually student taught in a high school and then changed my major to PR in my last year. Oh the choices and craziness. Good times. Good times.
Well onto this beauty. She is a stunner and pretty dang sweet..I loved that she is an equestrian. (I hope I used this term correctly, I know nothing about horses except that they are big, and seem pretty nice). Anyway, she had an awesome outfit and I loved how her pictures turned out. Here are a few of my favorites.

Larsen Family...

Why oh why is there always so much to do. Cut me a small break, I moved, I'm trying to make some friends, I'm trying to start a business (again), and still trying to be a mom..trying being the operative word.
Well, the list goes on and I've managed to successfully do about 3 of those things. HAHA. I won't tell you which ones..however let's just say that this beautiful little family is one of my new good friends. (see one off the list)
Isn't she adorable. I mean the whole family is...but I'm pretty sure I could fit most of them in my pocket. I always feel really blessed that I some how luck out to find amazing friends.
And did I mention that her second daughter is great friends with my Ella? Convenient no?
I promise, (mostly) that there is so many more to come..but I'm trying not to put up anyones Christmas card pictures BEFORE Christmas. That would be a bummer.
Plus, I will have to take a picture of the AMAZING frames that we ordered when they get here.
So Happy Thanksgiving, and let's cross our finger that I get my blogging act together.

Well, these kids could not have been cuter. There is something so great about twins..I myself would fancy having a pair. (from my mouth to God's ears)
Especially one boy and one girl. (hear that?) I sure would like to have twins someday (sigh).

In honor of Labor Day I decided to take this opportunity and labor. Honestly, I am so far behind at this point that I thought I would share my favorite 4 pictures of each group so I don't feel overwhelmed. (too late)
So, Jen is a stunning, SINGLE, student at BYU...(my brother thinks she is hubba hubba). Smart, stylish, single, and sweet. Can you beat that combo? I think not. Can you count all of the S's I just used?

JP workshop...

My new goal is to post AT LEAST once a week. Really, seriously, I promise.
These are from Julie Parker's workshop sometime last month. Keith Bryce designed the dress, and of course Julie's niece Rachel was the model, along with her fiance Spencer. It's truly hard to take a bad picture with Rachel hanging around.

The best part about workshops is getting to know the other cool photographers. It's great to hang out and get tips, chat, and network with people that love the same things you do. If you have not done a workshop, I suggest you sign up and take one!

So, sadly I am posting pictures from back BEFORE Christmas. I really should just wait until next year at this point, but seeing as I'm in Portland now and it still feels like winter, what the heck!
I will tell you that this was possibly the coldest day I've EVER spent second shooting with my buddy Julie (um, if you haven't seen her work click and love her now).
I am really going to miss her and hanging out..(um. ps Julie you still owe me chips and queso from Chilies..just saying)
Anywho..seriously the most IN LOVE couple I've ever witnessed. It's so great to see the longing gazes, and constant touching..ah, young love.
How can you not just LOVE taking pictures at weddings?

If you haven't had the chance to walk around Salt Lake Temple square during Christmas, the nativity scenes are hands down my favorite things...even cooler than the lights.

I am officially in Oregon. Yippee! I have lots of picture to post and some very cool senior shots...all in good time my friends (aka when my kids are asleep).

I feel like I need to do some cool pictures here, but I don't know anyone! Does ANYONE know ANYONE is Portland, OR that maybe wants free senior pictures, or maybe a few kids pictures?

Did I say FREE? Yes, I did. You can nominate someone on my blog...must be within 20 miles of Tigard, OR or willing to travel. Some limitations apply. (i always wanted to say that).

Sadly, I think most of my peeps are Utah/California but you NEVER know. Spread the word, spread the love.

Megan and Isaac...

I did a little second shooting with my pal Jessica Kettle. (um this was back in Sept..I'm really trying to play catch-up). She has this fantastic style that I adore, and honestly if I have to hang out with someone from 7am until 11pm at night..she's the gal to be with.
She is also a NIKON shooter and I needed to pick her brain. This is how I found out my camera was WAY broken and not focusing right, hence the need for my new one.
Luckily I got a few shots, but gained lots more experience from Jess (or Ketts as I say).
I will miss all my new friends and being around such amazing photographers...they really do keep you on your game.

Alton Family...

I'm pretty sure that I posted this beautiful family on FB at sometime as a Holiday treat..but never on the blog.
It just happened to be a huge storm that day (can you tell?), which made things interesting for all of us.
I am used to shooting at the beach but not so much in the snow..however I loved how they turned out.
Just know that I totally put a shower cap over my camera to "protect it" from the elements, but then it kept getting in my way and sliding down. There I am standing in 4 feet of snow at a Christmas tree farm, in a blizzard, trying to adjust a shower cap. I decided it would have been more useful on my head really. After an hour of freezing snow (and no we were not rescheduling we had a card deadline to make :) we get done, get in the car, and the stinking sun comes out and the snow stops.
Thanks again Mother Nature for that break AFTER I finish. And after the 6 inches of snow we got in Utah yesterday, I thought it only proper to finally post.

Sagiao Family....

A long time ago when I was back in oh, say 9th grade. I had this best friend Chantil. Chantil and I used to pass notes like a sport. You remember the folded little notes that had "pull here" written on the little flappy part? It really was an art form all in itself... the folding of those notes. Then someone would come along and do something really crazy like the square ones or the little origamy ones, and you'd get all jealous because the only ones that you could really make were the ones that had the little "pull here" tab. (sigh)
Anyway, there was this period of time that we used to write subliminal messages in our notes in tiny writing over the original message. We'd say things like "I am the prettiest friend you have", or "you are coming over to my house today", or "I am waaaay funnier than everyone else".
I really don't remember why we started this, but we really pulled our note writing to a higher level I believe. (these are the best pictures you've ever seen)
Definition of subiminal messages?? Words or messages communicated at a level below the conscious mind's ability to perceive (oh my goodness, these pictures are amazing) HA.
So the Sagiao family trouped all the way from warm California to take pictures in freezing cold Utah in December. I love big families that have such a love for each other, they can mess around, make fun of each other, and realize that in the end it's all about making mom happy. And we know that when the mom is happy so is everyone else. And seriously, these picture make me smile.
ps-moving to Portland....in 10 days. Wish me luck.

You know it's bad news when people actually email and tell you to start blogging. Lots of changes coming in 2010. New pricing, some weddings, a new job, and all that fun stuff.
It's been a nice little holiday break, and now as I go to Portland to find a house, move my little business again, and start anew...I look at this cute family and realize how many great friends and clients I've met here in Utah that last 8 months.
They live just down from my parents where we have been habitating the last few season (that's a WHOLE other story), and their daughter is great friends with my Ella. We will miss them, but hope that they will have a giant urge to visit the Pacific Northwest...because hey, who doesn't like trees that have moss growing on them?

project "HOPE"....

Many know the reason(s), well the ONE reason actually, that I started photography, many more don't.
On April 16, 2006 I lost my second baby a few days before birth. We named her Kate Elizabeth, and we buried her sweet little body by her grandma Rosan.
During our short hospital stay, on Easter morning, a nurse offered to take pictures of our short time with Kate. These few pictures changed me..it is the only thing that remains of her, here on earth with me. Her sweet smell is gone, I have a hard time remembering her face, her body can't be held, and I never got to hear her sweet little laugh. This is me with Kate...I love this picture, I love that my husband stood by me to wipe the tears.

But I did get photos, and that changed my life. My main goal when I started was to volunteer for "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep". To be able to give back what I was given was my one goal...but now that I've gotten into photography this past year, I really want to focus on the "HOPE". I want to put a face to those who grieve, a story for those who don't know where to turn, and some peace that time does heal, and life does indeed remain happy and hopeful.
So this is the start (FINALLY) of Project HOPE...the Kate Elizabeth Randle foundation.
The first part of this is to be able to take photos of those who have lost children. I want to publish a book so that others can see the faces of hope and healing.

My recovery started when I met Marcie, who also suffered a late term still-born little boy. She was so beautiful and she survived, that was really important for me to see. It changed my perspective and gave me hope.

There are so many things that I want to do, but for now I am going to focus on families that have lost a child, and haven't had a "new" family picture taken. By new I mean, one without their child in it. I have a few awesome photographer friends on board, willing to donate their time and experience to help me get this started.

But a few months ago I had the chance to take the Franklin family pictures. They lost their daughter Chelsea almost three years ago, and they agreed to have their pictures done. They are an incredibly beautiful, amazing family, and if you saw them on the street you would never know.

I sure hope that I brought some measure of peace to them...but I know it brought a lot of peace to me, so thank you for letting me photograph your family.

I was asked by Emily King of Papers Edge to take some pictures of her and her amazing art work for Mormonartist.net.
It's a very cool magazine about mormon artists that are doing incredible things...it's a MUST SEE.
We are in the new issue (number 7). Read the online version or download the pdf file to see her interview and my photos.
How cool is that? I HAVE PUBLISHED photos...who knew? I feel like reading "Oh,the places you'll go" by Dr. S...just to make myself smile, and laugh a bit.
Really, if someone would have told me this last year, I woulda punched them...but now I'll enjoy the tiny moment, take a deep breath, smile a bit more, and resume work on Christmas cards.

Well, it's crazy Christmas season, and the blogging has to slow WAAAAY down.

A few items of business...

1. I am only taking 2 more families for the holiday season.

2. I stop working/filling orders/stressing out/snapping at my children/barking at my hubby/looking at christmas sayings ALL day/eating crap(okay that's not going to stop)...on DEC. 1st. I shall resume sessions and such January 7th. (That's the day after my birthday, and my hubby's if you were wondering! :) Yes, we share the same birthday and I am 4 hours older and thus wiser. just saying.

3. I will fill Christmas card orders and prints for Christmas until NOV. 15th.

So a few things. First I'm loving the brown-eyed kids..I'll be honest I have a lot of blue-eyed clients.
Second, we had to cancel all these session because it was supposed to be the biggest rain storm of the season..oh wait. Didn't RAIN.
Third, when we did reschedule it was somehow a heat wave at 94... degrees. ON THE BEACH.
Poor kids, poor mom, poor me...but stinking cute kids, even in the heat wave.
And finally, have you ever noticed how I start most of my sentences with SO?

Long Family

I always love doing the families with older kids..mostly because they get my humor more than 2 year olds. (However, my husband would probably disagree and say I get along better with the 2 year olds..but that's another story). This family had me laughing all night, and might possibly have beat me in the sacastic game. Dang it. What a coolio family...oh yeah, and they LOVED when I told them to sit by the "CAUTION HOT" fireplace. ;)

Okay, sometimes you meet these really cool families, and with the cutest kids, and the prettiest eyes, and husbands that you can tell are thinking "please let this be over, please let this be over..." and the light is great, and you can hardly believe the sun is going down. Although again I'm pretty sure the hubby is still thinking "please let me catch the end of the football game..." this was that family.
They rocked, i was loving calling them Big Sal and Little Sal.
I'll be honest, most of my clients get nick-named... good times.

Johnson Girls

So a few things that I didn't account for on this session.
1. The bridge is beautiful but the slots in the bridge were big enough that a large adult could squeeze through. (NOT GOOD FOR RUNNING CHILDREN).
2. The second location had the greatest light and the cutest fence, until a girl going 80 (seriously) hit the guardrail right across from where we where shooting and mom's stress level went WAY up..okay, mine did too, but think about this, everyone stayed safe, they had great outfits on, and I had a large bag of candy.
GREAT OUTFITS + CANDY = makes all the bad go away...right? Love these girls!

Fisher Family

Ya, Ya I got a new camera..I'm in LOVE with the Nikon D700. Seriously, it was quite freezing outside..but the Fishers stuck it out with me. For a while I wondered if I would be able to take pictures. Apparently, I need to toughen up because it was only like 51 degrees. However in dog degrees it felt like 12.
Super hot family + super fun boys + hilarious parents + great locations= GOOD TIMES.

My husband always makes fun of me for saying how cute my families are...but I can't help it. They ARE cute dang it. This little hot momma cuts my kids hair, and pretty much everyone else I know too. Seriously, talk about a fun (CUTE) family. I don't think I stopped laughing the whole time...and if they'd let me, I would have kept taking pictures all night. They were sorta over me though...so we had to part ways. You could tell how much they loved each other and how genuinely affectionate there are as a family(just check their pictures). I think that's awesome!
ps-BOOMER the dog was my favorite accessory of the day.

So, this is my cutest little, but oldest nephew. I used to babysit him when he was a baby...where does the time go? I made these two act like we were taking "engagement pictures" (akward? Nope.) I wanted to try some different lighting stuff..poses..editing. Some of it I really like..but it's all about the learning process for me. The more I learn, the more my style evolves, and I don't pidgeon hole myself.

This is seriously one of my favorite locations. I love the funky colors, and that the beach is a skip down the road. Sharon (the mom) is probably one of the funniest girls that I know. It's been such a great year of learning, adjusting, frustratation, and more adjusting. I am so grateful to all of my clients in the last year who helped me grow this business. They had a LOT of faith in a girl who had a vision, but not a ton of techincal knowledge. So, thanks for trusting me to capture your families...(especially the Waldron family for letting me learn and practice!)

Julie Parker asked me to second shoot another wedding with her.
This was a super laid-back, let's have a great, fun day, cool(est)couple. Lots of love and personality in the WHOLE family! The wedding was at the brides house overlooking South Ogden. It could not have been a cooler house....and notice the sand that was brought in just for them! Loved it.

Isn't it great when families just mess around and actually look and act like they are the funnest people in the world. This was the family that just messed around and had FUN with each other. Here's another second shooter experience with bridals that J.P invited me to...seriously, so grateful to be kicking around with the best.
I have people ask me why I love her style so much.. and let me explain (besides the obvious, of course). Clark part II...

I love when people do pictures of things they like to do..the kids are more comfortable, and they get to have memories of the fun things that their kids actually did. So this was a full session of backyard fun...and a bonus that they had a great yard!

This is part one for the Clark family. This was a beautiful little boy, and only a few weeks old. We could not get the poor thing to sleep, and I'm pretty sure that at the end of the day he was not a fan of me. But I loved how alert and perfect his little eyes were..and check out those chicken legs! LOVED THEM.

OH, and I bought these beautiful white cozy, swaddle blankets at Little Cherry Blossoms on 25th street in Ogden. I met the owner Carey through Julie Parker (of course) and you can go buy this SUPER CUTE, AMAZING polka-dot bassinet at her store...GO, GO, GO!

Keith Bryce Fashion Shoot...

I had so much fun doing this workshop and fashion shoot with David Beckstead and Keith Bryce. It really was quite a bit out of my "comfort" and "safe" zone, but it was truly challenging and I learned loads. Plus, I think when you are around so many amazing photographers you have to elevate your game a bit.
I will say a HUGE thanks to Tim Uhl who took the time to teach me about lighting and many other things. His work is truly amazing. (I owe you!) And to the AMAZING models who worked their bums off ALL day! Thanks Madison and Rachel.

So, this is pretty different from my colorful little families, but I still dig it! After all this is what "high fashion" is really about. You'll have to let me know what you think!

I will be attending the David Beckstead "SHOOT WITH BECKSTEAD" workshop for the next 4 days. I'm super excited to learn A TON from him, and put it to good use. He is the master of composition, and a fantastic wedding photographer.

I LOVE this place. Ah, the Hotel Del, the most fantastic beach and hotel EVER. I love everything about it. We want to retire here in this picturesque town across from the city of San Diego. It was our Christmas tradition to go here, watch the ice-skaters on the beach (yes, I said the beach), the cute little coffee shop by the sea, Babcock Emporium, the ice-cream shop at the hotel Del, and my favorite part? Eating at McP's Irish Pub (located on Orange Street) and getting the usual...a monte cristo sandwich and a large Diet Coke. If you haven't ever been to Coronado then pack it up and get! Ahhh, it's what I will miss the most, so it's with great pleasure the I get to go back for a few weeks and stay with my bestest friend, see my other bestest friend, and take some pictures of some great families. I am SOOO excited to see you, meet you, take pictures of you, and photoshop you! haha, (well, not really!)
I am solidly, and fantasticly (is that a word?) BOOKED!

"Get Schooled" with Julie Parker...

A couple of weeks ago I had the fun chance to go and participate with my very favorite photographer Julie Parker, in one of her "Get Schooled" workshops. She is my mentor who taught me all the great things I know...(I'll take credit for all the bad stuff).
She had about 5 families and her niece come and model for us as we shot away. We all tried to get the best angle, (in the 23 degree weather in Utah), and watch how Julie posed the families.. the best part was being able to ask all the questions that come up when you are in the middle of taking pictures for people.
Julie was also taking pictures for Mikarose where her niece models their great and modest dresses. (aka the cute red dress down below) So fun to see her in action!

I am almost ONE full week behind. Where does the time go? I still need to post the pictures from the incredible workshop with Julie Parker. It was great to see other photogs in action and get advice from Julie..more to come later on that.
Oh, the Thompson family is the greatest mix of fun, beauty, and the good old age of 16! Yep, remember what that time was like for you? Then imagine your parents hiring a photographer to document the love..as you can tell the LOVE was felt.
Don't think I didn't have to start singing to illicit a response...mostly the response was "i think you are lame!" :) ahhh well, to be young at heart!

Some of my favorite pictures are the ones just taken when everyone is messing around and NOT looking at the camera. These are beautiful kids, and the boys were so great to be around. I could not choose my favorite so there are many of these cute kids to look at. Could you die at girly LuLu? You want to eat her up. She totally showed up in her shades ready to rock!

Trying to find somewhere to take pictures on a Sat. in wine-country I found, is virtually impossible! They were great sports while we drove around looking for a nice spot, and we swapped our best spider-bite stories! (Terrified of Black Widows..AHHH!)
I always make people jump and mess around to liven things up a bit...they are always some of my favorite pictures!

My good friend is now in the hosptial awaiting the arrival of their new baby boy. I thought that I would make them something to have of their family before the baby. It's a 10 x 10 hard matted picture that you could set on an eseal or hang on the wall! I love the different pictures and view of their sweet boy!

There is nothing like taking shots for the beautiful pregnant people. I always love to see how the other half live..you know the ones, the ones that only gain like 20 lbs, have no stretch marks anywhere on their bodies, don't have green skin, and have that totally "glowy" look. Sooooo not so when I am pregnant...just add 60lbs, olive skin tone, and the dry-heaves, shake and stir and there I am! Kriquett is one of the "other ones!" I've never seen a better tummy frankly...no photoshop here kids.
Anyway, I love the real shots of people's families. I love the funny interaction, and all the things parents (and I) bring to get them to come in the pictures, smile like they mean it, and hold still! WHAT?? Hold still? PUULEASE! But that's what I love about pictures, it tells the story of your family.

Now with the Christmas card RUSH behind me..I am finally starting to build my webiste. I should hopefully have it up and running in the next 2 weeks. It will be allysonrandlephotography.com (sigh).
Thanks so much to all the great families in California (and Utah) that had me do their cards for them. I can't wait to jump straight into 2009!

This is a beautiful little thing from Utah...I was lucky to get to take her whole family for their Christmas card pictures.

This is my favorite one...these are my cutest nephews and beautiful niece. This is what you get when you tell them to pose behind their parents....ahhh, boys. You can tell how proud mom and dad are!
